Student Living Spotlight: Sheffield

There are two main universities in Sheffield: The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. Nurtur House is a 10-minute walk to the Uni of Sheffield’s campus, and around a 20-minute walk to Hallam.

Nurtur House is located on Allen Street and is surrounded by shops and places to eat. Oriental Chinese supermarket, Hua Mei is just around the corner, and there is a Tesco Superstore just a few minutes walk away on Montgomery Terrace.

So, what else does Sheffield have to offer, other than a third of the city belonging to the Peak District National Park? Well, it boats the largest theatre complex outside of London, made up of the Crucible, Lyceum, and Crucible Studio.

Plus, it’s home to the likes of the band Arctic Monkeys and Yorkshire’s largest shopping centre, Meadowhall.

It comes alive at night with the sound of music, from small intimate gigs to big shows at the O2 Academy.

But the best part of Sheffield for any student is Kelham Island, which is just over the road from Nurtur House. It’s one of the oldest manufacturing sites so its full of history, and its existing mills and buildings are now home to shops, pubs, and galleries.

Some of Kelham Island’s most renowned pubs include The Fat Cat, Gardener’s Rest, and Kelham Island Tavern. And Peddler is a must-visit! Peddler is a monthly street food night market, offering some of the most delicious food you will ever taste.

Sheffield really is the place to be for any student wanting a brilliant experience in the city they choose to study.
