Happy Yorkshire Day! We are proud to be living in the largest county in the UK. To celebrate we’ve put a list together of some of our favourite spots to visit. Take a look below and let us know some of your favourite Yorkshire haunts if they aren’t on the list already.
It doesn’t get any better than a trip to York and the stand-out attraction has to be York Minster. This impressive cathedral is full of history and elaborate detail within its rich architecture built 250 years ago. Immerse yourself in its intricate designs and colourful stained-glass windows. With over 2000 years of ancient history to explore, this is an impressive medieval building and a must-visit destination.
Don’t be surprised to see others queueing when waiting to visit this classic tearoom. This iconic bakery is the original venue based in Harrogate that offers a truly British experience with delicious freshly baked cakes, biscuits and tea. Their afternoon tea is also a must-try, but don’t forget to book a space so you won’t miss out. We highly recommend grabbing a fat rascal for a true Bettys experience!
If you like a good walk and stunning scenery, you have to check out this spectacular trail displaying nature at its best. Available all year round since 1885, you can expect spectacular views, oak woodland, and various plants & wildlife. With an ice cream van available for a cheeky treat halfway through this scenic route, we can’t recommend a visit enough. So, get your walking boots on and give this a go!
Known as one of the best-preserved medieval castles in British history, Skipton Castle was built over 900 years ago. Often referred to as the ‘Guardian of the Gateway’ to the Yorkshire Dales, this fully roofed castle features a dungeon, watchtower and chapel. The castle is situated near Skipton High Street so you can finish your day looking around this impressive market town.
This popular seaside resort on the Yorkshire Coast has lots to offer. We recommend starting with a stroll down West Cliff Beach which is surrounded by restaurants, boat rides, and impressive views from above the cliffs. Nearby you will find a picturesque town with cobbled streets and quirky shops where you can pick up souvenirs to take home. You will certainly be spoilt for choice at this local fishing town!
Described as ‘the UK’s leading outdoor gallery’ you will find lots of modern and contemporary sculptures. As the UK’s first sculpture park, you can expect a ‘surprise around every corner’ with its outdoor sculptures, indoor galleries, and temporary exhibits. Plus ‘500 acres of historic parkland, woods and lakes’! It’s not hard to see why it was awarded 2023’s Yorkshires Tourist Attraction of the Year.
Take a tour through North Yorkshire and discover a historical adventure on board for ‘one the world’s greatest railway experiences.’ During this journey, you can hop on and off at different stations to explore the surrounding towns. Services such as Beer tasting, traditional afternoon tea and local food courses will have you spoilt for choice when eating on board. Choose a package to suit you or pick a special event to attend for a magical time on this authentic steam train.
