Top Tips on Preparing for The New Academic Year

Welcome to Nurtur and the start of a new academic year! We hope you’re looking forward to settling in and starting your new journey. You may be busy planning for all that’s ahead, and so we have put together our top tips to help you prepare and adapt to your new experience.

Socialise

As well as getting to know your university peers, we recommend making friends with fellow Nurtur residents to help you settle in. Our welcome party is a great start to get yourself familiar with your new setting and the perfect opportunity to meet your new neighbours.

Wednesday 25th of September – Save The Date!

Not able to make it? We run a variety of events regularly, ideal for helping our residents make friends and connections for a memorable university experience. Keep an eye out on our socials too and your student portal to keep updated.

Side note: The Nurtur team are always on hand to help you settle in and talk to. Grab a cuppa and get to know us in the reception area, we may throw in a couple of biscuits too!

Student Portal

Once you have received your sign-up link, your Student Portal will be an essential tool that you use regularly. After you’re all set up, you will have access to information on Nurtur events, important documents, delivery updates and health & wellbeing. Your student portal will be a useful and vital tool during your stay here at Nurtur!

Create a Budget

The university experience is no doubt an independent one and we highly recommend keeping on top of your finances. Prioritising your essentials whilst allowing yourself a treat will help keep your finances in check. Whether it’s making a shopping list or looking out for student discounts, be sure to start early on budgeting. We recommend signing up for UNiDAYS and Student Beans to grab yourself a saving or two!

Make Time for Yourself

Your mental health is very important and self-care should be a big focus for you. Academic stress can take its toll on your wellbeing but taking some time out for yourself to de-stress is a must! Activities like meditation and reading are great ways to unwind, and eating a balanced diet & a good sleeping habit. We like the Balance app for meditation and YouTube for its wide range of free workouts. You will also have access to the wellbeing section on your student portal. This has many resources to help you throughout your university journey.

Have Fun!

Amongst all the studying new routine, there will be lots of things to get used to and concentrate on. It can be easy to forget that your experience should be fun too.

Take some time out to explore the sights, catch up with friends and relax with a boxset. Whatever you choose to do, don’t forget to enjoy your time and make the most of it.
